Escape Winter with The Beachcombers: A Canadian Classic

It’s the middle of March and for most the novelty of winter has worn off with feelings of contempt and frustration in its wake. Wetaskiwinites are tired of piling on layers and layers of winter wear, shoveling the freshly fallen snow off their driveways, and scraping the frost off their windshields before work. Luckily, we can retreat from all the cold and snow with the help of some of our favorite television shows, one of which being the Canadian classic The Beachcombers. It transports us away from a world blanketed in white to the beachside of Gibson’s Landing, British Columbia and focuses on the life of Greek-Canadian log salvager Nick Adonidas. Wetaskiwin’s own Jackson Davies appeared on the show as the character Constable John Constable. Davies has since donated some Beachcombers memorabilia to the Heritage Museum, such as the script pictured here. This is the final script, along with the final cast call, for the last episode, entitled “Sunset,” of the popular Canadian TV series that ran from 1972 to 2004. Do you happen to remember this episode of The Beachcombers? If you are simply too eager to wait for summer’s return, join us for our beach-themed Rock-A-Hula party on March 29th!
