Jean Spencer’s Award-Winning Handmade Dolls

This week with collections we have accessioned some handmade dolls that were from a store called Karriage House B&B Antiques. This establishment had a store that sold handmade hand stitched dolls by Jean Spencer. Jean got the inspiration from a store that she visited in Calgary and eventually started making her own dolls. Sadly, in the early 2000s the business closed, the donor of the dolls, that have been donated to us, bought them before they closed. This doll is made from a Robin Hood flour bag and a sugar sack. Everything on this doll has been personally hand stitched, to creating the body of the doll, the facial features, the nail polish, hair, shoes, to the dress. This specific doll was entered into a County Fair in Pigeon Lake and won 1st place.
