Exploring Ruby Heggerud’s Contribution to Wetaskiwin History

The museum wants to share this miniature furniture from Ruby Heggerud (nee Asplan). She was significantly involved in the community along with her husband, Melvin. The couple would have Bruce Heggerud, who was generous enough to donate the items. Ruby and her husband Melvin were both born and raised in the Vang District (The Scandinavian Area of Wetaskiwin). There were farmers hating eggs, milking cows, and growing grains. Melvin worked for the county and ran a C.A.T. During that time; Ruby was involved with the Vang Church & Horticultural Society and was the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. Both Melvin and Ruby were involved in Lapidary (rocks and gems) and were in a Lapidary Club in Wetaskiwin. The couple was also involved in a “Sons of Norway” society. As a researcher and gathering information, Ruby was involved with the Siding 16 Wetaskiwin history book. Melvin was in a band in the Vang district and played the Trumpet. Melvin also was a caretaker for the Vang sports ground.
