The Wetaskiwin & District Heritage Museum is developing an exhibit about fashion in Wetaskiwin and the surrounding area through the years, and we need your help! As with all our exhibits and displays, we want to tell this story from a local point of view and to do this we need you! What are some of your favourite memories of shopping in Wetaskiwin? What were/are some of your favourite stores to buy clothes from? What trends do you remember from years/decades past? Did you ever shop from, or browse through, catalogues and if so, which ones were most commonly found in your house and what kind of things did you purchase from them?
We thought that this image from the City of Wetaskiwin Archives was the perfect photo to share with this request! Taken in 1973, we see Paula McNaughton and Pam Zyla modelling clothes in Montgomery’s Department Store, which is now the home of the Wetaskiwin District Heritage Museum!! Please take a few moments to jot down your ideas about fashion in Wetaskiwin City, County, and Maskwacis and then either send them by email to us at wdhm@persona.ca or stop by in person at 5007 – 50 Ave. We are open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 5pm with extended hours on Thursdays and Fridays until 8pm!
