Mission, Mandate, Vision, & Core Values

Mission: The Wetaskiwin & District Heritage Museum provides for the exhibition and preservation of artefacts in order to unite with the local community through history, culture, events, and education.

Mandate: objects / artifacts must be relevant to the history of Wetaskiwin and / or District for the purpose of preserving and interpreting material evidence of human cultures and natural environments

Vision: The Wetaskiwin & District Heritage Museum is a friendly gathering place for the local community to engage in the history and culture of Wetaskiwin City, County, and the Maskwacis Four Cree Nations.  The museum will endeavour to grow with and for the community exchanging knowledge with present and future generations.

Core Values:

The Wetaskiwin & District Museum Society Board, Staff, Volunteers, and Members are committed to:

Preservation and Promotion of History and Cultural Heritage:

We believe that history and cultural heritage are important resources, provide a concrete basis for ideas, inspiration, and aspirations, and validate both shared and individual experiences. They are, therefore, worthy of promotion for the current generation, as well as preservation for future generations.

Community Engagement:

We exist for, and because of, the community and are responsive to our community’s needs. We believe in collaboration with both individuals and groups, being involved with what’s going on outside our front door, and striving not only to bring the community in to the museum, but also to take the museum out to the community.

Lifelong Learning:

We act on the belief that all people have the fundamental right, and ability, to improve their knowledge and skill-sets for both personal and professional development. We promote and encourage curiosity, discovery, and the sharing of authority and information.

Respect and Inclusiveness:

We celebrate the richness inherent in differences and create an environment that fosters trust, collaboration, appreciation, and diversity for visitors, staff, and volunteers alike.

Leadership and Excellence:

We promote integrity, initiative, high standards, and self motivation in all areas, and believe that excellence is not something that is achieved, but rather is a continual process that is practised and improved upon by all.
